The Hidden Impact of Underwear & Swimwear: Eno’s Eco-Friendly Awakening
Have you ever stopped to think about the environmental impact of your underwear and swimwear? It’s a question most of us rarely consider, but the truth is, the traditional fashion industry leaves a significant footprint on our planet.
Did you know that in 2019 alone, a staggering 235 million pieces of clothing, including underwear and swimwear, ended up in landfills? That represents a whopping 57% of all landfill waste generated that year! Even more alarming, experts predict the fashion industry will discard a mind-blowing 134 million tonnes of textiles by 2030.
Here at Eno, we believe it doesn’t have to be this way. We’re on a mission to revolutionize the way you think about underwear and swimwear, offering a stylish and sustainable alternative for everyone, especially those who have undergone a mastectomy.
Eno: Leading the Charge for a Greener Future
Eno isn’t just about creating beautiful underwear and swimwear that empower women to feel confident and liberated. We’re also deeply committed to minimising our environmental impact. From the materials we use to our production practices, we prioritize sustainability in every step of the process.
Here’s how Eno is making a difference:
Eco-Conscious Fabrics: Our first collection features two main fabrics, both chosen with the planet in mind. One of our suppliers utilises ECONYL® regenerated nylon, a game-changer made from 100% pre-consumer waste that would otherwise pollute our environment. Additionally, our eco-conscious partners have implemented innovative procedures to significantly reduce water, energy, and chemical consumption during production, minimising waste and carbon emissions.
Sustainable Elastics: We don’t compromise on comfort either. Our elastics are crafted from a blend of 63% certified recycled polyester and 37% natural rubber, all certified OEKO TEX Made in Green. We also source natural rubber elastics that meet the same OEKO TEX Standard 100, ensuring they’re free from harmful chemicals. Production waste from these elastics is never forgotten – it’s meticulously recycled back into the system.
Recycled Everything: We believe in giving new life to existing materials. Our high-quality fasteners, adjusters, and even threads are all made from 100% recycled plastic or polyester, often derived from discarded plastic bottles. These elements also boast OEKO TEX Standard 100 and GRS (Global Recycle Standard) certifications, guaranteeing responsible manufacturing practices.
Minimising Waste: We’ve even eliminated unnecessary components! Our labels are printed directly onto the garments, using water-based ink free of harmful chemicals. This not only reduces waste but also ensures maximum comfort against your skin.
Home-Compostable Packaging: Even our packaging is designed with sustainability in mind. We use home-compostable plastic bags made from vegetable oil and starch, which completely break down in just 180 days in a compost environment. And of course, our mailing envelopes are 100% recyclable and biodegradable.
Handmade in the UK: We’re proud to support local communities and craftsmanship. Each Eno product is handcrafted by a small, specialist manufacturer based in London. This not only reduces our carbon footprint by minimising transportation but also ensures exceptional quality and attention to detail in every piece.
